Congratulations to 2016 Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson Youth of the Year, Diane!
Diane is a junior at Academies of Education and Empowerment. She has been a part of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carson for three years. During her three years, she has participated in Keystone, College Bound, Driver's Ed, Fitness Club, Building Bridges, Power Hour, UPS Road Code and Professional Development. Next year she plans to apply to UC Riverside or UC Davis and intends to major in the field of education.
Diane appreciates the Club for contributing to her academic and personal growth. Regarding her Club experience, Diane shares that "Being able to converse with the staff and join the activities provided, it is truly a home away from home. I could not be more thankful for the opportunities the Club has offered me."
Diane's vision for America's youth is for all youth to have the courage to speak up – especially when it comes to cyber bullying. Diane shares that cyber bullying is a crisis that many young people face today, and due to advances in technology it has become easier to target others online. This topic is especially close to Diane's heart because she experienced it firsthand. Diane was subject to malicious rumors spread about her on Facebook. Together with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson, Diane hopes to encourage teens to spread awareness of cyber bullying and prevent it from happening so no other youth has to feel the same pain she dealt with.
Diane's personal tagline is "Just Do It!" because she does not let anyone or anything stop her from doing what she wants to achieve. Whether it is training for a marathon, volunteering, or choosing to spread positivity, Diane will continue to "just do it." Diane has many goals and aspirations and she knows that her Great Future Starts Here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson.
