Matthew & Edgar
Meet Matthew & Edgar
Meeting Matthew today, you’d never guess he was once a child with behavior challenges at school. This caring, bright first grader is a bundle of energy and the first to greet you when you walk through the Club! The only child of a single parent, Matthew’s father Edgar struggled find consistent care for him after school. He knew Matthew needed a safe place to go each day but lacked quality options at his elementary school. Then, Edgar heard about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson. With the help of the Club’s transportation program, Matthew now attends our Main Street Clubhouse. Edgar is able to continue working full time without worrying about his son’s safety and security. Matthew has blossomed into a child who thrives on positive reinforcement and encouragement from staff.
Edgar says “At the Clubhouse, Matthew is making friends. I like that he plays soccer with Coach Mario and learns to get along with other kids. Staff are reinforcing what I am teaching him at home which is to be respectful and nice to others. The Club teaches Matthew that he must act responsibly and that helps him not get in trouble at school.”
