The purpose of the “I Heart 64” awards is to celebrate and honor community members that have had a positive influence in the 64th Assembly District, represented by Assemblymember, Mike Gipson. The award highlights individuals/groups for their outstanding contribution to their community.
Raquel Martinez has been recognized for her passionate advocacy for youth and families in marginalized communities. She has a unique ability to engage youth in activities that they love as a vehicle to develop their love of learning. Raquel has led BGCC’s efforts to integrate social-emotional wellness support across all Club programs and service locations, including training other professionals throughout LA County on how to do it in an intentional and meaningful way.
The 64th Assembly District includes the communities of Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor Gateway, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, South Los Angeles, Torrance, Watts/Willowbrook, and Wilmington.
